Frugal Tip of the Day #3: Prepping for Storage
My parents always taught me to do things right or don’t do them at all, and when it comes to storing your food in the correct manner, if you don’t do it right then you shouldn’t do it at all! You’ll just waste your food and your money if you don’t take a little extra time to prep everything properly before you place them in the freezer. Below is a list for fruits and vegetables and another for meats, that can be frozen and the best method of preparing each one for storage. I have used the Fruits and Vegetables list from Disabled World for the past 2 years without any problems. Fruits & Vegetables Many vegetables require blanching before you freeze them. Blanching is a method of a quick boil for usually 3 minutes … Read entire article »

Frugal Tip of the Day #2: Storage
I’ve lived through times that were so incredibly hard for our family, that finding ways to feed everyone became something I feared. There were times that I had no choice but to go to the local food bank to make ends meet. I’m grateful there are people and places that can help those in need, but I have to say, I don’t want to be one of them again! I’m also grateful for those hard times because they taught me valuable lessons that have now trained me to shop wisely and waste not. Meat and produce are your largest expenses at the grocery store, and coupons for these items are extremely rare. Mama Bear Central…Saving Money & Getting Back to Homemade
Mama Bear Central (MBC) was first created as a way to log and share my love of cooking with anyone that happened to fall on the site, but when our country was hit with the worst economic fallout since the Great Depression, along with thousands of other families around the nation; my family felt the hardships of the times. Times of struggle are often the foundation one builds a legacy from, and after finding myself using the methods my grandparents used in their pioneering days to save a buck where I could, I realized how wasteful I had been before the recession had hit. It is for this reason that the new foundation of Mama Bear Central (MBC) began to form, as a way to help others build on their family … Read entire article »
